Reflections

  • Simplify operational complexity: Interviews with the gifting team revealed how manual, contract- and email-driven processes created a significant barrier to scaling the experience.

  • Leverage existing infrastructure: Building on existing infrastructure proved to be an effective way to launch an MVP quickly, validate the revenue opportunity, and minimize investment in new systems.

  • Every word matters: When a product experience presents multiple options, even small pieces of copy can reduce confusion and guide decision-making. Clear, contextual language became an important part of the design.

  • Design for the entire journey: End-to-end guidance across purchase, distribution, and redemption can help both purchasers and recipients confidently navigate the experience.

  • Build for scale: The management dashboard was highly valued for reducing operational effort, but opportunities remain to further automate distribution. Features such as bulk distribution are being considered for Phase 2.

  • Adapt to evolving systems: Working with a deprecating design system challenged me to explore new and alternative components, balancing design quality with the realities of delivering within the MVP timeline.
